Located in the picturesque mining region of Ingurtosu, the Casargiu Well is a unique example of industrial archaeology.

The site, within the Ingurtosu mining concession, can be reached by taking the dirt road that connects Ingurtosu to Montevecchio (SP66), shortly after the Genna Craboni pass.

The construction of the well began in 1881, when Sardinia was experiencing a phase of great development linked to mining.

Designed to exploit the rich deposits of the Ingurtosu vein and the secondary Cervo vein which from this point takes the name of Montevecchio.

The Well represented an advanced engineering solution for the time.

Its structure, essential but functional, was equipped with a steam extraction machine and a modern machine that operated wooden cages used to transport materials and miners.

In addition to its technical importance, the Casargiu Well fits into a broader historical context: it was one of the symbols of the Sardinian mining industry, which between the nineteenth and twentieth centuries represented one of the main economic resources of the island.
